This June, OCEANIDS joined the Living Planet Symposium 2025 (LPS25) to co-host Session F.04.15 – Resilient Coasts: Adaptive Strategies for Sustainable Ocean Management in a Changing Climate. Under the theme Global Cooperation and Policy Support (Sub-theme: Enabling Environmental Policies), the session brought together space agencies, research organisations, coastal authorities, and community stakeholders to explore how Earth Observation (EO) tools can drive adaptive, sustainable governance of our shorelines.
Key Highlights
- Space-enabled insights for decision-making
Speakers showcased how satellite data—ranging from coastal erosion monitoring to real-time sea-level projections—can be integrated into maritime spatial planning and policy frameworks. - User-driven, location-specific solutions
Case studies illustrated the value of tailoring EO services to the needs of individual ports, cities, and regions, empowering local authorities to act swiftly on climate risks. - Flexible policies and community engagement
Discussions emphasised the need for dynamic governance models that can adapt as environmental conditions evolve, underpinned by strong collaboration with coastal communities.
Convenors and Contributors
Convened by Geosystems Hellas SA in partnership with NEREUS, CNES, OHB Digital Services, and CREOTECH, the session featured voices from research labs, regional authorities, and private sector innovators—all united by a shared goal of building more resilient coastlines.
Looking Ahead
The enthusiasm and insights generated at LPS25 fuel our commitment to turn EO data into tangible benefits for Europe’s coastal regions. Stay tuned for upcoming pilot deployments of the Oceanids Decision Support Platform (O-DSP) and future workshops where we’ll continue to co-design solutions with end users.
