Data-Driven Blue Cities: Coastal Resilience, Innovation & Ocean Insights at Smart City Expo 2025

On 6 November 2025, the session “Data-Driven Blue Cities: Coastal Resilience, Innovation & Ocean Insights” took place at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. The event brought together European projects and coastal authorities to discuss how Earth observation and data-driven tools can support climate resilience and sustainable blue economy planning.

OCEANIDS, as session lead, presented its decision-support solutions developed with thirteen European user regions. The programme also highlighted contributions from VALORADA, EDITO, and SeaCLIM, offering perspectives on coastal monitoring, hazard modelling, and long-term sustainability. Discussions focused on practical applications, collaboration across initiatives, and the value of data-informed approaches for local and regional decision makers.

Speakers included representatives from Geosystems Hellas, the Region of Crete, TerraSpatium, Mercator Ocean (EDITO), NOW Systems (SeaCLIM), and Veneto Region, with moderation by CDP Global. The session underscored the importance of user engagement and cross-project cooperation in shaping smarter, more resilient coastal cities.
